Early Check-In

Early Check-In or late Check-Out on Martha's Vineyard

We get asked about early check-in or late check-out all the time, and especially when people have ferry times that are not optimal.

Unfortunately, when we have back-to-back turnovers, this is probably impossible. Check our schedule to see if a gap exists.

On average, we charge $50 per hour for the use of the property outside of the hours specified in your lease. This arrangement is in place to facilitate this charge.

Arranging for early check-in or late check-out requires coordination with the owner, cleaner, and caretaker, and changing the stay in our booking dashboard.

Transportation

If you are transporting perishables to the island in a cooler, here are some tips to ensure your items stay cool until you can get them into a refrigerator.

  • Use a good quality cooler such as Yeti. Other coolers work but have varying degrees of effectiveness.
  • Pack extra cold packs in the coolers. Dry ice is best and is sold at bigger stores. Otherwise, use old packs. Do not use ice.
  • One alternative I have used is to freeze one or two 1/2-gallon milk or juice containers (with water or milk). These "blocks" of ice work great and do not melt over everything.
  • Lay a newspaper over the bottom of the cooler and the top of the food in the cooler. Fill the cooler, but do not overfill it.
  • Only place essential items in the cooler.
  • Do not open the cooler to "check on" the food.

What to do

Having fun while waiting for your rental. Here are some ideas.

  • Pack so that your beach towel and bathing suits are accessible. Nothing beats a swim in the ocean to relax after a long journey.
  • Visit a place you might not usually visit, such as the MV museum or the Flying Horses.
  • Grab lunch. There are plenty of great restaurants in all of the towns.
  • Pack a picnic. Bring a picnic blanket and a beach umbrella
